With the advent of new fabrication methods, magnetic transducers have been developed at the micro and nano scale, exploiting novel properties and providing new features. While miniaturized magnetic transducers have already been central to data storage and sensor devices, they are now also studied for being used in various new areas including life sciences and biomedical applications.

This talk covers principles and examples of contemporary magnetic Micro- and Nanosystems, with an emphasis on novel magnetic nanowire transducers, for which we developed a facile and efficient fabrication method. The nanowires are highly biocompatible and temperature resistant. The applications range from magnetic nanocomposites, artificial skins, corrosion sensing, energy harvesting, drug delivery to cancer treatment. The magnetic nanowire-based transducers enable both new functionalities as well as a power reduction up to several orders of magnitude compared to similar methods.

      本次讲座的主要内容涵盖当前最新的微/纳磁传感系统,将着重介绍主讲人在纳米线传感器高效加工方法方向的研究成果。磁性纳米线具有良好的生物兼容性和温度耐受性,可以在磁性纳米复合材料、人工皮肤、腐蚀传感、能量采集、药物输运和癌症治疗等方面发挥重要作用。与传统方法相比,基于磁性纳米线的传感器可以将能量消耗降低数个量级。

主讲人简介:

Dr. Jürgen Kosel is Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) since 2015. In 2009, he joined KAUST as Assistant Professor. Dr. Kosel was a postdoctoral fellow with the Biomedical Engineering Research group at Stellenbosch University in South Africa from 2007 to 2009. In 2006 and 2007, he worked in the automotive industry as project manager at Magna Powertrain in Austria. Dr. Kosel received his Dipl. Ing. (M.Sc.) and doctor of science (PhD) degrees in electrical engineering from the Vienna University of Technology, Austria, in 2002 and 2006, respectively.
